Discover The First Female Captain Leading TUI Cruises Mein Schiff Six From Singapore To Hong Kong

TUI Cruises is shaking up the cruise industry by promoting Kira Schikorr to captain of the Mein Schiff 6, making Schikorr the first female captain of any of TUI Cruises’ eight ships. TUI Cruises has never had a female captain, making this a huge milestone for the cruise line. Schikorr is taking over her position this winter, during the ship’s winter season, as it operates in the Southeast Asia and Far East regions. The Mein Schiff 6 is currently sailing out of Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre and has cruises scheduled to Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and other exciting Southeast Asia destinations.

This is TUI Cruises showing their commitment to change when it comes to equality and female leadership in the maritime industry, as Schikorr’s journey is one of the most distinguished for a female maritime captain. Schikorr joined TUI Cruises in 2017 and has since worked her way from officer to staff captain and now captain. It is a huge achievement for Schikorr and the cruise industry as a whole, as female representation is long overdue.

Kira Schikorr’s Journey to Captain

Kira Schikorr’s rise to becoming a captain for the first time is a momentous event not only for herself but the entire maritime community. Schikorr joined the company TUI Cruises back in 2017. Her passion for the sea and skills in navigation earned her the position of an officer. Eventually, her journey continued as she was promoted to staff captain in 2022 on board the Mein Schiff 2. This position provided her the opportunity to create and strengthen her skills as a leader, supervising and managing the operational activities of the ship.

In 2024, TUI Cruises and Schikorr transitioned to the Mein Schiff 7, her new ship post, which was the newest addition to the TUI Cruises fleet. Schikorr demonstrated exceptional leadership during this period of transition, which ultimately resulted in her promotion to captain of the Mein Schiff 6. This was an extraordinary accomplishment as Schikorr was the very first female captain of this position in the company’s entire fleet.

Winter Itineraries from Mein Schiff 6 in Southeast Asia and the Far East

As Schikorr begins her new position, she will be in charge of the Mein Schiff 6 during the winter season, which will include several 14-night cruises to Asia’s finest winter destinations. Leaving from Singapore, the ship will travel to a wide range of destinations in Southeast Asia and the Far East, including Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. These cruises will be offered until early March and will allow for the best experiences of the wonderful Southeast Asian winter.

The ship has a capacity of 2,534 passengers and is recognized for having some of the best top-notch facilities that will provide its travelers with a lavish atmosphere while discovering new places. Each of the destinations has its own unique features, which will provide travelers with varied and exciting experiences. There will be cultural activities and land and water excursions that will be available at each of the destinations. These voyages will include the more subdued and picturesque islands and capital cities of Southeast Asia, including the bustling Ho Chi Minh City, which offers a range of more modern and luxurious services.

Upcoming Itineraries: Southeast Asia, The Far East, and Beyond

After winter, Mein Schiff 6 will reposition to Hong Kong for spring cruises to the Far East, with some of the most exciting and most varied destinations, such as Japan, South Korea, and China. Guests sailing on Mein Schiff 6 will get to witness the remnant cultural heritage of the East and the modernity of the East Asian metropolises. With every new port of call, the ship provides an ideal balance of relaxation and exploration, allowing guests to experience the Far East with comfort.

At the end of April, the Mein Schiff 6 will set sail for a remarkable 55-night repositioning voyage from Hong Kong to Europe. The journey will take guests on an odyssey through the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Atlantic, and nearly 20 destinations before arriving in Palma de Mallorca at the end of June. This extraordinary itinerary features a 3-day stay in Singapore, a 3-day stay in Cape Town, and additional overnight stays in Bangkok and Walvis Bay to provide plenty of time to explore these fantastic destinations.

The Mediterranean and Western European Seasons Await

After repositioning, the Mein Schiff 6 will offer cruises in Western Europe and the Mediterranean for summer 2024. Starting in July, the ship will offer sailings from Porto, Portugal, and Palma de Mallorca, allowing guests to visit some of Europe’s most stunning coastlines. With Mediterranean beaches and Western European cities, the summer itineraries will include a variety of cultural experiences, scenic cruises, and onboard service.

Focusing on premier service and unforgettable experiences, the Mein Schiff 6 will be an integral component of TUI’s summer experiences. From sailing through the Mediterranean to exploring Western Europe, guests will be in for a one-of-a-kind summer experience.

Conclusion

Kira Schikorr’s being made captain of the Mein Schiff 6 is an important milestone for TUI Cruises and the entire maritime industry for the expansion of the role of women in the field. Schikorr’s leadership is bound to become the industry’s gold standard as she steers the ship through the colorful Seas of Southeast Asia and beyond. Navigating the exceptional cultural diversity of Vietnam and Thailand or managing an extraordinary repositioning service to Europe, Schikorr will shape and define the legacy of the Mein Schiff 6 in her maiden voyage as captain. This exceptional ship will offer travelers who seek out new and different cruising experiences limitless opportunities as it circles the world to new and interesting ports.
