Brewers Made MLB History During Their 5th Inning Outburst

The Milwaukee Brewers routed the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the Fall Classic and gave Brewers fans a fifth inning that will never be forgotten.

Jackson Chourio hit a single sandwiched between the first two outs of the inning. Christian Yelich walked after the second out, and after that, seven straight Brewers recorded a hit, resulting in eight runs in the frame.

According to OptaSTATS, the Brewers are the first team in MLB history to have seven straight batters get a hit in a postseason game. What’s more impressive is that it came in the World Series, and all seven hits came with two outs. Although there was plenty of baseball left to play, the game essentially ended right there.

The seven consecutive hits came from William Contreras, Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, David Hamilton and Jackson Chourio. Chourio had two hits in the inning.

While the seven hits and eight runs will get all of the headlines, a hustle play from Yelich on a ground ball Contreras hit to Caminero to start the run of seven straight hits cannot be forgotten. Caminero went to second base on a ball hit at 96.7 mph by Contreras, hoping to get Yelich to end the inning.

Yelich was called out, and the Brewers challenged. After review, he easily beat the throw with a foot-first slide. That play kept the inning alive and allowed Turang to break the game open. Had Yelich not been hustling and beaten that play, the Brewers would have ended that inning with no runs, hanging on to a 2-0 lead.
