Explore Emerging Destinations: Quang Ninh Unveils Tourism Strategy for This Year and Beyond

Quang Ninh Province, located in northern Vietnam, has set ambitious tourism growth targets for 2026, aiming to capitalize on its natural wonders and rich cultural heritage. Following a strong start to the year, the provincial authorities are outlining new initiatives and strategies designed to further boost the tourism sector, with a focus on diversification and expanding international appeal.

The tourism industry in Quang Ninh has experienced a dynamic beginning to 2026, driven by key events and a range of initiatives aimed at attracting both domestic and international visitors. Early indicators suggest that Quang Ninh is on track for continued success, with the region seeing a significant number of visitors during the New Year holiday period (from 31 December 2025 to 4 January 2026). During this time, the province recorded approximately 657,000 total visitors, including around 70,500 international guests, showcasing the increasing appeal of the destination.

Ha Long Bay Remains the Heart of Quang Ninh’s Tourism Boom

Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its stunning limestone karsts and emerald waters, remains the focal point of Quang Ninh’s tourism growth. The area attracted a significant number of visitors during the New Year period, with over 43,800 people flocking to the bay to experience its natural beauty and partake in various recreational activities, including boat tours, kayaking, and sightseeing.

The Ha Long Bay area has long been recognized as one of Vietnam’s premier tourist destinations. In addition to its natural allure, the region has also been investing heavily in infrastructure improvements, including new hotels, resorts, and amenities to accommodate the growing influx of visitors. The Sun World Ha Long Park, featuring the iconic Queen Cable Car, continues to be a top attraction, offering panoramic views of the bay and surrounding areas.

The region’s tourism growth is further supported by a diverse array of local cultural attractions, including traditional villages, historic sites, and vibrant markets. As Quang Ninh continues to develop its tourism infrastructure, Ha Long Bay will remain a key pillar of the province’s tourism strategy.

Focus on Diversification and International Appeal

In line with its growth strategy for 2026, Quang Ninh is making efforts to diversify its tourism offerings to appeal to a broader range of travelers. Beyond Ha Long Bay, other destinations in the province, such as Bai Tu Long Bay, Co To Island, and Uong Bi, are gaining attention as emerging tourist hotspots. Each of these destinations offers a unique blend of natural beauty, history, and cultural experiences, allowing tourists to explore beyond the traditional spots.

For instance, Co To Island, located off the northern coast of Quang Ninh, is becoming increasingly popular for its pristine beaches and tranquil environment, making it a perfect destination for relaxation and eco-tourism. Similarly, Bai Tu Long Bay, located to the east of Ha Long Bay, is known for its secluded beaches and unspoiled landscapes, offering a quieter and more intimate alternative to the main bay area.

To attract more international visitors, Quang Ninh is strengthening its partnerships with travel agencies, expanding its presence in global tourism markets, and hosting international events. The introduction of visa exemptions for certain nationalities, as well as enhanced transport links to neighboring countries, is expected to further boost the province’s international appeal. In particular, China, South Korea, and Japan remain key markets for tourism to Quang Ninh.

Tourism Revenue and Economic Impact

Tourism revenue plays a crucial role in the economy of Quang Ninh, and the province is looking to increase its revenue from the sector significantly by 2026. During the recent New Year period, tourism revenue in the province reached approximately VND 1,620 billion (USD 68.7 million), which demonstrates the growing importance of tourism as an economic driver.

As Quang Ninh continues to expand its tourism offerings, the province is also focusing on sustainable tourism practices, ensuring that growth does not come at the expense of its natural environment. Efforts to promote eco-tourism, green initiatives, and the preservation of local ecosystems are central to the long-term vision for the province’s tourism sector.

Key Events and Initiatives in 2026

To maintain momentum and ensure a successful year, Quang Ninh has already outlined several major tourism initiatives for 2026. The province will host a range of cultural events, festivals, and international tourism fairs throughout the year, designed to engage both domestic and international tourists. These events will showcase the province’s rich cultural heritage, including traditional music, dance, and culinary experiences.

Additionally, Quang Ninh plans to enhance its tourism infrastructure with new projects, such as the development of more luxury hotels and resorts, improvements to transportation networks, and the introduction of new leisure activities. The expansion of the Ha Long International Cruise Port will also make the province a more attractive destination for international cruise lines, further boosting tourism.

Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond

As Quang Ninh sets its sights on 2026, the province remains committed to building a sustainable, diverse, and globally competitive tourism sector. The growth strategy for the coming years will focus on expanding the province’s international presence, promoting emerging destinations, and improving the overall visitor experience. With a blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and modern amenities, Quang Ninh is positioning itself as one of Vietnam’s most exciting and dynamic tourism destinations.
