Graham Copeman Appointed Managing Director of Elite Hotels as Company Enters New Chapter in 2026

Elite Hotels, a prestigious name in the hospitality industry, has announced the appointment of Graham Copeman as managing director, effective from January 2026. This move marks a pivotal shift for the renowned hotel group as it steps into the next chapter of its growth. Copeman, who brings extensive experience in the hospitality sector, will be succeeding Graeme Bateman, a stalwart in the company who has led Elite Hotels for over three decades.

Leadership Transition at Elite Hotels

The leadership change at Elite Hotels is a significant one, as Bateman transitions to the role of executive chairman of the company and its charitable arm, The Rotherwick Foundation. Bateman’s leadership over the past 30 years has been instrumental in shaping the success of Elite Hotels and his legacy has been a cornerstone of the company’s operations. His deep commitment to the hospitality industry and the foundation’s mission will continue to guide the company, albeit from a new position.

Copeman joins Elite Hotels from Exclusive Collection, where he spent more than six years as the general manager of Pennyhill Park. Under his leadership, Pennyhill Park received high praise for its exceptional service and luxurious offerings, further solidifying Copeman’s reputation as an experienced and accomplished hotelier. His career has also seen him in senior roles at prominent hotel brands such as The Zetter Group, St James’s Hotel & Club and The Goring. With this extensive background in luxury hospitality, Copeman is poised to bring fresh energy and expertise to Elite Hotels.

Overseeing Elite Hotels’ Prestigious Portfolio

As managing director, Copeman will oversee the operations of three key properties in the Elite Hotels portfolio: Tylney Hall Hotel in Hampshire, Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club in East Sussex and The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne. Each of these properties is a prime example of the exceptional hospitality standards that have made Elite Hotels a recognized name in the industry.

Tylney Hall, set in the scenic Hampshire countryside, is known for its breathtaking architecture and impeccable service. Ashdown Park, nestled in the picturesque East Sussex countryside, offers guests a peaceful escape, blending nature with luxury. The Grand Hotel, located in the historic town of Eastbourne, is famed for its elegance and charming coastal views. Under Copeman’s leadership, these properties will continue to provide first-class hospitality experiences, while also adapting to the evolving demands of the luxury hotel sector.

A Promising Future for Elite Hotels

Graham Copeman expressed his enthusiasm for taking on the role of managing director at Elite Hotels. He acknowledged the significant contributions of Graeme Bateman and expressed his excitement at the opportunity to work alongside him in the next phase of the company’s development. Copeman emphasized his commitment to building on the solid foundation laid by Bateman, noting that he was “enormously excited and incredibly proud” to be joining the company during this transformative period.

Bateman, on his part, welcomed Copeman and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the company to greater heights. He praised Copeman’s wealth of experience in the hospitality industry and noted that he would work closely with the new managing director as Elite Hotels continues to evolve its portfolio. Bateman’s transition to the role of executive chairman marks a new chapter for both the company and the foundation, as he shifts focus to broader strategic initiatives while maintaining a key role in the company’s future direction.

Looking Ahead to New Horizons

As part of this leadership transition, Bateman will take over the chairmanship of both Elite Hotels and The Rotherwick Foundation from Andrew Dixon, who will retire after ten years of service. Dixon has been a valued member of the Elite Hotels team and has contributed greatly to the company’s success during his tenure. Although retiring from the chairmanship, Dixon will continue to support The Rotherwick Foundation as a trustee, ensuring continuity and guidance for the charitable arm of the company.

The leadership changes at Elite Hotels come at a time when the hospitality industry continues to navigate shifting trends and consumer preferences. Under Copeman’s guidance, Elite Hotels is poised to maintain its status as a leader in luxury hospitality while adapting to the evolving needs of the modern traveler.
