Holland America Line blends Alaska landscapes craftsmanship and national history through exclusive onboard keepsake and anniversary sailings

Holland America Line blends Alaska landscapes craftsmanship and national history through exclusive onboard keepsake and anniversary sailings by combining destination inspired design with milestone travel experiences that reflect both place and heritage. The cruise line is introducing a limited edition Alaska themed throw blanket that translates the region’s rugged scenery wildlife and northern light skies into a handcrafted collectible available exclusively onboard Alaska sailings. At the same time it is marking America’s approaching 250th anniversary with specially curated voyages that highlight historically significant ports patriotic onboard programming and celebratory sailings timed around national milestones. Together these initiatives connect Alaska’s natural grandeur with craftsmanship rooted in American tradition while using themed itineraries to tell a broader national story at sea.

The collaboration connects two brands with long-standing ties to Alaska and a shared dedication to craftsmanship, storytelling and exploration. Created exclusively for Holland America Line, the limited-edition throw will be available for purchase aboard the cruise line’s Alaska sailings during the 2026 season. Designed as a meaningful souvenir, the blanket allows guests to take home a tangible reminder of their journey while celebrating both the destination and the experience of cruising through one of North America’s most iconic regions.

Rooted in authenticity and inspired by the dramatic scenery encountered on an Alaska cruise, the heirloom-quality throw presents a panoramic visual narrative of the region. Its design unfolds across rugged mountain ranges, towering evergreen forests and vast open skies, evoking the scale and isolation that define the Last Frontier. Iconic wildlife imagery, including a moose, a whale and an eagle, reinforces Alaska’s deep connection to nature, while the Northern Lights arc across the composition, adding movement and a sense of wonder.

“As we mark Alaska Statehood Day and look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, we are thrilled to bring together American heritage brands to celebrate the shared spirit of ingenuity, honored traditions, and craftsmanship,” said Kacy Cole, Holland America Line’s chief marketing officer. “Pendleton was the perfect brand to partner with on Alaska, having been founded in 1909 and bringing milled textiles to the pioneer days of the great American West.”

The color palette draws from deep ocean blues and Holland America Line’s signature orange, complemented by subtle accents of gray, yellow, brown and natural neutral tones. Together, these elements reflect Alaska’s coastal waters, alpine terrain and changing light, while also honoring the shared heritage and craftsmanship values behind the collaboration. The result is a collectible item designed not only for comfort, but also as a visual storytelling piece that captures the essence of the journey.

“This limited-edition throw is a reflection of Pendleton’s legacy of craftsmanship and weaving storied landscapes through our designs,” said Bob Christnacht, EVP of Sales and Marketing at Pendleton. “Our partnership with Holland America Line is a natural fit — rooted in our shared connection to Alaska and a long-standing commitment to honoring place, history and craft.”

A Pioneer of Alaska Cruising

Holland America Line’s presence in Alaska stretches back longer than statehood itself. The cruise line began sailing in the region in 1947, helping to establish the foundation for modern Alaska cruise tourism. From the earliest voyages, it focused on scenic exploration, meaningful engagement with local communities and responsible access to remote landscapes.

With nearly eight decades of experience, Holland America Line continues to lead in immersive Alaska travel. Its portfolio includes a wide range of cruise itineraries and land-based extensions designed to bring travelers closer to glaciers, wildlife habitats and culturally significant locations. The cruise line offers more glacier-viewing opportunities than any other operator in Alaska and remains the only one to provide a Cruisetour that combines Denali National Park with Canada’s rugged Yukon, delivering a comprehensive northern exploration experience.

Honoring American Heritage Through Strategic Partnerships

The Alaska-themed throw is part of a broader initiative tied to America’s 250th anniversary, with Holland America Line highlighting American heritage through carefully selected brand partnerships. These collaborations aim to celebrate craftsmanship, innovation and exploration while offering guests limited-edition experiences and products connected to the nation’s history.

Among the planned commemorative offerings is a 28-day Pan Am–inspired Legendary Voyage scheduled for 2027. Designed around historic global travel routes, the sailing revisits a golden era of exploration while adapting it for modern travelers. The itinerary will include 18 ports along a historic Great Circle Route through the Caribbean, a path that once helped shape international travel standards and connectivity.

Additional co-branded products and future partnerships will be announced ahead of the July 4, 2026 milestone. Together, these initiatives form a layered tribute to America’s 250-year journey, blending travel, heritage and storytelling into experiences that extend beyond the voyage itself.

A Patriotic Cruise Experience at Sea

Travelers looking for a unique way to mark the milestone can join a dedicated “America’s 250th Celebration: Stars and Stripes” sailing. Leaving Boston on July 4, 2026, the voyage is crafted to transform Independence Day into an immersive experience at sea. The itinerary features a late-evening departure that allows guests to watch fireworks light up the city’s historic skyline, complemented by on-deck festivities with traditional American picnic favorites and live musical performances celebrating the nation’s spirit.

The itinerary will also include visits to historically significant cities such as Norfolk, Virginia, and an overnight stay in New York, allowing guests to explore destinations that played pivotal roles in shaping the nation’s history. Together, the sailing reflects Holland America Line’s broader approach to connecting travel with culture, heritage and meaningful celebration as the United States approaches a landmark anniversary.
