Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class was well represented this weekend, as head coach Mike Elko and his staff hosted a wide range of elite prospects in the 2027 and 2028 recruiting cycles. Headlined by the return of 2027 five-star linebacker Cooper Witten, five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, and several current Aggie commits in the class, Elko is continuing to make progress and develop close relationships with every future star.
In order to keep up with every prospect the coaching staff has contacted, we’re here for you in that regard, and one of Elko’s earliest recruiting targets, 2027 four-star safety Semaj Stanford, who the Aggies offered over a year and a half ago, has included Texas A&M in his top 12 program list.
Stanford, who is considered the top defensive prospect in Oklahoma, is likely well aware of Mike Elko’s background with defensive backs, sending a handful of safeties and cornerbacks to the NFL throughout his tenure as a defensive coordinator, including the last three seasons at Duke and Texas A&M.
So far, Elko has landed commitments from four-star safeties JayQuan Snell and Kamarui Dorsey, both considered blue-chip prospects who could see the field as soon as their freshmen seasons. Combined with a pledge from four-star cornerback Raylaun Henry, who is the 18th-ranked prospect in the class, there’s no reason to think the Aggies can’t land Semaj Stanford.
Even better, while Stanford is slated to play safety at the next level, he’s played both ways during his high school career, including as a standout wide receiver.
According to 247Sports, Stanford is currently positioned as the 84th-ranked prospect in the class, the 6th-ranked safety, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Oklahoma.
