Unlike last year, the Oklahoma City Thunder were in the comfort of their own homes as the 2025 NBA Cup finals played out. All eyes in the NBA world were on the New York Knicks as they beat the San Antonio Spurs to win the in-season tournament.
Entering Las Vegas, the Thunder were viewed as the clear-cut favorite. The reigning NBA champion have looked like one of the greatest teams ever. Most have picked them to go back-to-back as they’re in the conversations to join the 70-win club.
Instead, Victor Wembanyama’s return proved too much to overcome. The Thunder were sent him early as they enjoyed the consolation prize of a four-day break before they returned to action.
Here’s what the Thunder had to say about the 2025 NBA Cup finals:
Mark Daigneault
On if he watched: “Not really. A little bit. I had it on for the rating.”

Jalen Williams
On if he watched: “I watched ‘The Town’ and ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ and then I FaceTimed my parents.”
On Las Vegas’ atmosphere: “It’s cool but I play here so it’s a drop-off. It is cool to see Vegas rally around the games. Anytime a city is auditioning for a team to be there, it definitely shows out. It’s a good atmosphere. I do like going there to play. It brings a new element.”
