Azerbaijan is beginning to gain attention as a tourism destination from European travellers. This year, it has been focusing on increasing its partnerships with travel companies in Poland, Czechia and Hungary. From September 7 to 14, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) organized a trip to help travel companies from these 3 countries gain insight into Azerbaijan’s travel industry and see how they can create bespoke travel offerings for the Azerbaijani market.

The initiative was designed to provide international travel professionals with direct knowledge of Azerbaijan’s landscapes, cultural heritage, hospitality services and tourism infrastructure. By allowing representatives to experience destinations first-hand, the programme aimed to support the creation of new travel packages and increase awareness of Azerbaijan among European holidaymakers.

During the visit, participants explored major tourism attractions in Baku, Azerbaijan’s modern capital known for its blend of historic architecture, cultural landmarks and contemporary developments. The itinerary also extended beyond the city, introducing visitors to the unique experiences available in Shamakhi, Shaki and Gabala, three destinations recognised for their natural beauty, history and cultural importance.

The familiarisation programme highlighted Azerbaijan’s ability to offer a wide range of travel experiences, from heritage tourism and traditional villages to mountain landscapes, outdoor activities and local culture. Through direct engagement with destinations and tourism providers, participants gained a deeper understanding of opportunities for developing new routes and travel products for European visitors.

Azerbaijan Creates New Business Opportunities With European Travel Markets

A key element of the visit was a dedicated business-to-business (B2B) workshop, which connected tourism representatives from Poland, Czechia and Hungary with more than 60 local tourism companies in Azerbaijan.

The workshop created a platform for industry professionals to discuss potential collaborations, exchange market insights and develop new partnerships between European travel businesses and Azerbaijani tourism operators. The meetings focused on expanding cooperation, improving destination visibility and identifying opportunities to increase visitor flows from Central and Eastern Europe.

The event also reflected Azerbaijan’s broader strategy of strengthening international tourism partnerships by connecting local businesses with overseas travel networks. Such industry-focused initiatives allow tourism companies to better understand traveller expectations, develop competitive packages and introduce Azerbaijan’s attractions to new audiences.

By bringing together international buyers and local suppliers, the programme supported stronger links between Azerbaijan’s tourism sector and European markets. The cooperation is expected to contribute to the development of new tourism products that showcase Azerbaijan’s cultural, historical and natural attractions.

Improved Air Connectivity Makes Azerbaijan More Accessible for European Travellers

Azerbaijan’s growing appeal among European travellers has been supported by improved air connectivity between Baku and major European cities. Direct flight connections from Warsaw, Prague and Budapest have made travel planning more convenient for visitors from Poland, Czechia and Hungary.

Travellers can access direct services operated by airlines including LOT Polish Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and Wizz Air, creating easier travel options between Azerbaijan and important European source markets.

Alongside improved transport links, simplified entry procedures have also contributed to making Azerbaijan more accessible for international visitors. Citizens of European Union countries can apply for an electronic visa (e-Visa) through Azerbaijan’s official visa platform before travelling.

The standard e-Visa process allows eligible travellers to complete their application online before departure. Visitors may also choose an urgent visa service, which provides faster processing options for those requiring quicker travel arrangements.

The Azerbaijan visa allows visitors to stay in the country for up to 30 days within a 90-day validity period, supporting both leisure travel and short tourism experiences.

The combination of easier visa procedures, direct flights and stronger tourism partnerships is helping Azerbaijan create a more attractive environment for European travellers seeking new destinations.

European Visitor Numbers Show Continued Interest in Azerbaijan

The growing focus on European tourism markets is reflected in visitor statistics recorded during the first eight months of 2026.

Between January and August 2026, arrivals from Poland increased by 14.9% compared with the same period in the previous year. Visitor numbers from Hungary also recorded growth of 5.6%, while arrivals from Czechia increased by 0.2% during the same period.

The figures indicate continued interest from European travellers and highlight the importance of maintaining strong connections with overseas tourism partners. Familiarisation programmes and business networking events play an important role in converting destination awareness into actual travel demand by allowing industry professionals to understand products, experiences and services available in Azerbaijan.

As European travellers increasingly look for destinations offering culture, nature, history and unique experiences, Azerbaijan continues to position itself as a destination capable of meeting diverse tourism interests.

Azerbaijan Promotes Diverse Experiences Beyond Baku

While Baku remains a major gateway for international visitors, Azerbaijan’s tourism development increasingly focuses on promoting experiences beyond the capital.

Destinations such as Shamakhi, Shaki and Gabala provide travellers with opportunities to explore historical sites, traditional lifestyles, mountain scenery and regional attractions. These areas represent the country’s broader tourism potential by offering experiences that combine culture, nature and local hospitality.

Shaki, known for its historic character and traditional architecture, provides insight into Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage. Gabala attracts visitors with its mountain environment and outdoor activities, while Shamakhi offers historical significance and scenic landscapes.

By introducing tourism professionals to these regions, Azerbaijan aims to encourage longer stays and more diverse travel itineraries. Expanding visitor movement beyond major cities can also create wider economic benefits for local communities and tourism businesses.

Stronger International Partnerships Support Azerbaijan’s Tourism Growth

The familiarisation trip demonstrates Azerbaijan’s continued efforts to build stronger relationships with international travel markets. By working closely with tourism companies in Poland, Czechia and Hungary, the country is creating new channels for promoting its attractions and expanding its presence among European travellers.

The combination of industry cooperation, improved accessibility and growing international interest is supporting Azerbaijan’s ambition to become a more recognised destination on the global tourism map.

With continued investment in tourism partnerships, connectivity and destination promotion, Azerbaijan is strengthening its appeal for travellers seeking a combination of cultural discovery, natural landscapes and modern travel experiences.

The latest initiative with European tourism companies represents another step in expanding Azerbaijan’s tourism network and encouraging more visitors from key European markets to discover the country’s diverse attractions.
