NFL power rankings Week 6 see Packers, Patriots get statement wins

Every win in the NFL can be pivotal. But some wins are more important than others. Some teams make statements in victories throughout the season.

Several NFL teams earned statement wins in NFL Week 5.

Among them? The Green Bay Packers, who obliterated the Chicago Bears; the New England Patriots, who trounced the Las Vegas Raiders; the San Francisco 49ers, who beat the Seattle Seahawks on the road; the Houston Texans, who almost shut out the Tennessee Titans on the road; and the Baltimore Ravens, who rallied for an overtime win against the Atlanta Falcons on the road without Lamar Jackson.

How did those statement victories impact our NFL Week 6 power rankings? Check out how we rank every team in the league entering the NFL Week 6 schedule.

These Week 6 NFL power rankings will be updated after the Buffalo Bills vs Los Angeles Rams game on Monday Night Football tonight. Previous rankings in parentheses.

32. Tennessee Titans (31)

Cam Ward and the Titans are 0-5 with an NFL low 58 points scored this season. They are averaging just 11.6 points per game. They put up just three points in a loss to the Texans. This team deserves to be ranked last in the NFL.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Houston Texans, 26-3 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At Indianapolis Colts (Oct. 18)

31. Miami Dolphins (32)

We’re moving the Dolphins up a spot in the rankings after Malik Willis and Miami only lost by seven against the Bengals. Yes, they are 0-5, but they have played the Vikings and Bengals tough in successive weeks.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Cincinnati Bengals, 31-24 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Off

30. Los Angeles Chargers (30)

The Chargers were tied for sixth in odds to win the Super Bowl before the season started. They are now 0-5. Justin Herbert has regressed and he doesn’t have a lot of support. This team might be the biggest disappointment in the NFL.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Denver Broncos, 23-17 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At Kansas City Chiefs (Oct. 18)

29. Arizona Cardinals (26)

The Cardinals have given up an NFL-worst 162 points through five weeks. That’s 32.4 points per week. That’s also absolutely atrocious. The team has given up at least 36 points in three straight losses. Mike LaFleur’s first season could end up being extremely long.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Detroit Lions, 45-21 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At Los Angeles Rams (Oct. 18)

28. New Orleans Saints (24)

The Saints have lost three straight and are 0-3 at home after a promising start to the season. Yes, it was against the Vikings, but Tyler Shough was just 16-for-25 for 95 yards, with two passes intercepted in the loss Sunday. The concerns are growing in New Orleans.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Minnesota Vikings, 23-13 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At New York Giants (Oct. 18)

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (29)

We have to give the Buccaneers a little boost after that gritty performance against the Cowboys. Jalon Daniels was impressive in getting his first win, but Bucky Irving’s performance was spectacular. Maybe this team could make some noise in the NFC South after all.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Dallas Cowboys, 24-16 (Oct. 8)
  • NFL Week 6: Pittsburgh Steelers (Oct. 18)

26. Houston Texans (28)

CJ Stroud and the Texans dominated the Titans. Could it be the beginning of a big turnaround for Houston? The team is adding wide receiver depth with the trade for Marvin Harrison Jr., Stroud’s college teammate at Ohio State.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Tennessee Titans, 26-3 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Jacksonville Jaguars (Oct. 18 in London)

25. Washington Commanders (25)

The result in the record book will go down as a tie, but we consider that a loss for Washington after the disastrous clock (mis)management at the end of overtime by Jayden Daniels and the Commanders. It’s too bad, too, because it overshadowed a great return from injury for the quarterback.

  • NFL Week 5: Tied New York Giants in overtime, 27-27 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At San Francisco 49ers (Oct. 19)

24. Philadelphia Eagles (22)

Make that three straight losses for the Eagles and this one was inexplicable. Yes, this team has had more than its share of injuries but that is no excuse. Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia only have scored 92 points in five games. The fans expect more.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Jacksonville Jaguars, 19-17 (Oct. 11 in London)
  • NFL Week 6: Carolina Panthers (Oct. 18)

23. New York Jets (27)

These are not the same old Jets. They are 2-3, with two close losses. The defense plays hard, including only allowing 198 total yards against the Browns. That warrants a boost this week.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Cleveland Browns, 17-12 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At New England Patriots (Oct. 18)

22. Indianapolis Colts (19)

The Colts have a great weapon in Spencer Shrader, who has been spectacular for Indianapolis on field goals this season. The problem is, they have to rely on him far too often. Daniel Jones and company must start to get into the endzone if they want to challenge for a playoff spot.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Pittsburgh Steelers, 34-22 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Tennessee Titans (Oct. 18)

21. Dallas Cowboys (16)

The Cowboys lost to a previously winless team that had an undrafted rookie free agent quarterback making just his second NFL start … at home. We’re perfectly fine with people calling it “embarrassing,” even if Dak Prescott isn’t.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-16 (Oct. 8)
  • NFL Week 6: At Green Bay Packers (Oct. 18)

20. Atlanta Falcons (21)

The game against the Ravens unraveled late for the Falcons, who saw Michael Penix Jr. exit due to an injury late and Tua Tagovailoa throw an interception in overtime. But this team is now right in the thick of the NFC South race after an 0-2 start.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Baltimore Ravens in overtime, 30-23 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Chicago Bears (Oct. 18)

19. Las Vegas Raiders (8)

Too big of a drop for Kirk Cousins and company? After a 3-0 start, the Raiders have dropped two straight, allowing 75 points in the process. And they have the Bills and Rams up next. Maybe Fernando Mendoza will start sooner rather than later at quarterback for Las Vegas.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to New England Patriots, 45-17 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Buffalo Bills (Oct. 18)

18. Chicago Bears (9)

That’s a big drop for Chicago, but when you only score seven points and you commit five turnovers (as well as three turnovers on downs), you deserve to fall in the rankings, no matter if Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum, Caleb Williams or even Jim McMahon is your QB.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to Green Bay Packers, 31-7 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At Atlanta Falcons (Oct. 18)

17. Cleveland Browns (10)

Cleveland’s 3-game win streak ended in disappointing fashion against the Jets, making us second-guess our praise for Deshaun Watson and company last week. A total of 198 yards just doesn’t cut it. But the Browns are still 3-2.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to New York Jets, 17-12 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Baltimore Ravens (Oct. 18)

16. Cincinnati Bengals (15)

A win is a win in the NFL. But the Bengals’ win over the Dolphins was underwhelming. The bye is coming at the perfect moment for Cincinnati. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins need a week off before taking on the Ravens in Week 7.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Miami Dolphins, 31-24 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Off

15. Detroit Lions (18)

The Lions could easily be higher in these rankings after their absolute dismantling of the Cardinals (they scored on seven straight possessions, six of which were touchdowns). We just can’t put Dan Campbell’s team above the Panthers after Carolina’s win over Detroit in Week 4.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Arizona Cardinals, 45-21 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Off

14. Carolina Panthers (17)

Bryce Young is 101-for-162 for 1,268 yards in four games this season. He has thrown nine touchdowns and had two passes intercepted. It’s no wonder the Panthers appear to be a contender in the NFC South.

  • NFL Week 5: Off
  • NFL Week 6: At Philadelphia Eagles (Oct. 18)

13. Los Angeles Rams (13)

The Bills vs. Rams game on Monday Night Football tonight could be must-see TV.

  • NFL Week 5: Buffalo Bills (Oct. 12)
  • NFL Week 6: Arizona Cardinals (Oct. 18)

12. Denver Broncos (12)

Interestingly, the Broncos have been outscored this season 111-97, yet they are 3-2. Bo Nix and the offense just don’t seem right, but that defense is starting to put it together. If the offense starts to get rolling, look out.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Los Angeles Chargers, 23-17 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Seattle Seahawks (Oct. 15)

11. Pittsburgh Steelers (14)

Aaron Rodgers is 42 years old. In Week 5, he went 22-for-31 passing the football for 235 yards, with three touchdowns. Take a moment to appreciate that. Some other teams could really use that production at the quarterback position.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Indianapolis Colts, 34-22 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Oct. 18)

10. Green Bay Packers (23)

Too big of a jump for Green Bay? Not after the way the Packers shone against the Bears in their second straight win. Jordan Love and Green Bay are suddenly 3-2 after two straight wins.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Chicago Bears, 31-7 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Dallas Cowboys (Oct. 18)

9. New England Patriots (20)

Yes, this is a big jump for the Patriots, but New England has turned its season around with two straight impressive wins, without A.J. Brown. Drake Maye was 26-for-34 for 374 yards with four touchdowns in Week 5. That will do.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Las Vegas Raiders, 45-17 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: New York Jets (Oct. 18)

8. New York Giants (11)

This is one of the hardest teams to rank in the NFL. On one hand, the Giants are 3-1-1. On the other hand, they have only outscored their opponents by three points this season. In Week 5, they tied the Commanders on the road. It’s hard to trust Jameis Winston, but the Giants continue to lead the NFC East.

  • NFL Week 5: Tied Washington Commanders in overtime, 27-27 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: New Orleans Saints (Oct. 18)

7. Seattle Seahawks (4)

The Seahawks’ two losses have been by a combined five points. Seattle had an uncharacteristic four turnovers in the loss to San Francisco (including two Sam Darnold interceptions). We have a feeling these teams could have a couple more tight games this season.

  • NFL Week 5: Lost to San Francisco 49ers, 32-29 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At Denver Broncos (Oct. 15)

6. Baltimore Ravens (6)

No Lamar Jackson, no problem? Tyler Huntley led Baltimore on a touchdown-scoring drive late in the fourth quarter (including a successful two-point conversion attempt) and a touchdown-scoring drive in the first series of overtime to help the Ravens move to 4-1 and stay in first place in the AFC North.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Atlanta Falcons in overtime, 30-23 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: At Cleveland Browns (Oct. 18)

5. Buffalo Bills (5)

The Rams vs. Bills game on Monday Night Football on Oct. 12 could be pivotal for both teams.

  • NFL Week 5: At Los Angeles Rams (Oct. 12)
  • NFL Week 6: At Las Vegas Raiders (Oct. 18)

4. Jacksonville Jaguars (7)

Do you believe in miracles? That’s what the Jaguars got in their win over the Eagles, somehow escaping London with a victory on a last-second field goal (and it really was a last-second field goal). At 4-1, Jacksonville has a two-game lead in the AFC South. Trevor Lawrence and company might really be an AFC contender.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Philadelphia Eagles, 19-17 (Oct. 11 in London)
  • NFL Week 6: Houston Texans (Oct. 18 in London)

3. Minnesota Vikings (3)

The Vikings are 5-0. They have only allowed 64 points this season. They have a two-game lead in the NFC North standings. And Kyler Murray, Justin Jefferson and Minnesota get a week off before facing the Colts in Week 7.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat New Orleans Saints, 23-13 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Off

2. Kansas City Chiefs (2)

The Chiefs are the lone unbeaten team remaining in the AFC. How long will Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City stay that way? They have the Seahawks up next after the Chargers.

  • NFL Week 5: Off
  • NFL Week 6: Los Angeles Chargers (Oct. 18)

1. San Francisco 49ers (1)

Are the 49ers the best team in the NFL? They are 5-0 with wins over the Rams, Broncos and Seahawks. Brock Purdy is 98-for-142 for 1,196 yards and 13 touchdown passes this season, with just two passes intercepted. They are the best team in the NFL in our book right now.

  • NFL Week 5: Beat Seattle Seahawks, 32-29 (Oct. 11)
  • NFL Week 6: Washington Commanders (Oct. 19)
