Section V’s Football Athlete of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 6 presented by Turf Masters: Vote now

It’s time to take a look at the standout performers from Section V.

Your vote will determine who will be the Turf Masters Football Athlete of the Week for August 31 – September 6. The players’ credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 8 p.m. Thursday. The winner will be announced on our Instagram page Friday.

The nominees are chosen by our sports reporters. If you would like to call attention to an athlete’s performance to be considered for the nomination, please email sports@democratandchronicle.com. All athletes who play on Section V football teams are eligible to be nominated.

Now, let’s meet the candidates.

James Chase

Avon running back rushed nine times for 164 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-12 win versus Clyde-Savannah. Also made a 58-yard touchdown reception and recorded 10 tackles on defense.

Jude Christ

LeRoy/Cal-Mum running back posted two touchdowns and 96 yards in the Rivals’ 28-24 win over East Rochester-Gananda on Friday. Christ closed his outing with the game-clinching first down run.

Terrell Cunningham Jr.

Monroe quarterback senior finished with six touchdown passes, as he completed 8 of 13 attempts for 300 yards during a runaway win at Edison. He also had a 15-yard rushing touchdown.

Trent Englert

York/Pavilion senior led his team’s defense with 13 solo tackles, including two for a loss, in a win over Red Jacket. Englert also had 72 rushing yards and a touchdown on offense.

Jesse Jablonsky

Pittsford receiver nine receptions for 122 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 44-22 win at Brockport.

Jayden Jager

Churchville-Chili running back led the Saints with 204 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 attempts in a 36-31 win over Greece Athena.

Brailon Johnson

Eastridge senior completed 6 of 8 pass attempts, four for touchdowns, and ran for another touchdown during a commanding win over Greece Olympia/Odyssey. Johnson finished with 205 passing yards and 152 rushing.

Matt Kosiorek

Hilton quarterback completed all seven of his pass attempts for 103 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Fairport. Kosiorek also had a rushing score and 61 yards on the ground.

George Mirras

Canandaigua star returned a punt for a touchdown during the third quarter of a 41-20 win at Honeoye Falls-Lima moments after the Cougars scored a game-tying touchdown.

Jayden Nelson

Irondequoit sophomore rushed for 185 yards, including two touchdowns, on 17 carries during a 43-21 win over Gates Chili.

Brody Pusateri

Pittsford quarterback had five touchdown passes and 78 rushing yards, including a run for a touchdown, during a 44-22 win over Brockport. Pusateri completed 15 of his 22 throws for 181 yards.
